Postdoctoral position "Elucidation of the biosynthesis of bioactive terpenoids from marine species and their production in engineered yeast"

The University of Copenhagen has a postdoctoral opening to work on the "Elucidation of the biosynthesis of bioactive terpenoids from marine species and their production in engineered yeast".

The project will run at the University of Crete Medical School for three years, but the applicant will have the opportunity to relocate for part of the time (or maybe longer, depending on funding) to my lab in Copenhagen.

The project will capitalize on existing transcriptomic analysis of red algal species to characterize the biosynthetic activities involved using expression in yeast or bacteria, and then we will reconstitute the elucidated pathways in yeast for the production of the compounds of interest. The project is in collaboration with the groups of Antonis Makris (EKETA, Thessaloniki), Vassilis Roussis (EKPA, Athens) and Christos Tsatsanis (UoCrete) and the companies GAP SA (pharmaceuticals) and Kefalonia Fisheries SA (aquaculture). For an indication of the workflow, please see our paper on a related compound in land plants: http://www.pnas.org/content/113/13/3681
