The Alfred-Wegener-Institut Helmholtz-Zentrum für Polar- und Meeresforschung (AWI) is one of the world´s leading polar and marine research organisations and delivers significant contributions to international research on climate, marine and coastal issues. AWI is a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres (HGF). It has an annual budget of more than 100 million Euros and a staff of more than 1000 employees. AWI conducts multidisciplinary research in the Arctic and Antarctic and in temperate latitudes.AWI keeps the German federal government updated on its research results and provides advice on the development of environmental policies. AWI maintains extensive cooperation networks with numerous national and international institutions.AWI and Max-Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology (MPIMM) are the two German partners in ASSEMBLE Plus.

The marine stations BAH (Biologische Anstalt Helgoland) and Wattenmeerstation Sylt are the main centres of coastal research within the AWI, and these stations participate in ASSEMBLE Plus. 

AWI will offer TA and will contribute to NA2, NA3 and NA4.
